Dr. Denny presents a few easy spinal range of motion exercises that can be done everyday or multiple times a day. The benefits include greater range of motion, improved communication from your brain to the rest of your body, and less pain. Rob and Adrienne Shaunfeld are supporting local farmers and artisans with The Farmer’s Table Cafe. If you haven’t heard of it, you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of years. Fayetteville shares their vision of affordable farm to table dining and has shown that support with lines out the door for breakfast and lunch. They now have dinner hours on Friday and Saturday evenings with an ever changing seasonal menu.
My goal was a grain free breakfast that included some vegetables and that was exactly what they had. I ordered the Rise and Shine which included 2 eggs over easy served on a bed of sauteed local greens and veggies. I added 2 sausage patties to my order as well. I love eggs and greens almost as much as I love dark chocolate and red wine. I was wanting a coffee but not the dairy and I was in luck since they have almond milk and coconut milk available. The flavors were near perfection and the portions were great. Not too much and not too little. I left feeling nourished from the nutrient rich meal and the great energy of the environment. The sun was shining through the window and we shared the ‘family table’ with another couple. When they don’t have a large party, Farmer’s Table uses the family table to seat multiple small parties. It’s a great way to meet other people in the community that share a love for nourishing, nutrient dense, local food.
I love veggies for every meal! Pair them with sweet potatoes and I’m in awe. My dish, Verduras Hash, was plated with house potatoes, sweet potatoes, and topped with sauteed kale and onions. They use coconut oil which is great when sauteeing, as it has a much higher smoke point than olive oil. Healthier and tastier option:) It also came with a side of house made black beans for a nice hunk of protein. My beverage was a chai tea with coconut milk. Did I mention I love anything coconut!? The atmosphere is great. It provides the opportunity for us to really get back to the basics and be close and warm with each other.
Want to try the Bone Broth Greens but not sure of the best way to serve it? The bone broth greens have a very “grassy” flavor. They are made with oat grass juice and alfalfa grass juice. Both are great sources of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic properties. I’ve mixed them in with a green juice that also had apples, and it was good but I still felt like a pastured animal drinking my grass instead of munching on it. I tried it in hot water too, like I do with the pure or the turmeric and that wasn’t a great idea. My next attempt was in a smoothie with coconut milk (almond or cashew would work too) and frozen tropical fruit. My bag contained mango, papaya, and most importantly pineapple. I also threw a half a ripe banana in my smoothie too. I didn’t add honey or maple syrup but you could do that too if you prefer something sweeter. Now, I just need a beach and a little umbrella in my drink.:)
A couple of weeks ago we held our 5th annual Patient Appreciation Party at The Garden Room. This is a fun and relaxed evening filled with amazing local food from Farmer’s Table Cafe and live music from musician Matt Jones. The party is to honor our lifetime patients. These are patients that have chosen to make their health and wellness a priority by starting a second plan of care. Some of these guys have been patients since shortly after Dr. Denny and Dr. Mandy started their practice.
There was a great crowd and lots of new friendships were made.
Some studies show that people who have multiple social connections and spend time with others, get sick less often, sleep better, live longer, and have less cognitive decline as they age. All of those health benefits from just hanging out with other people that you like and that like the same things you do.
One of our FAVORITE patients thought Dr. Denny would look better with a goatee.
